Brahma Gītā (ब्रह्मगीता)

At the crest of the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha, in the Nirvāṇa (निर्वाण) prakaraṇa, the teaching is heard under the name Brahma Gītā. The six prakaraṇas have already done their work. Rāma has said why the world went thin. The conduct of a person who wants release has been named. An appearance has arisen, seemed to stay, and quieted. What remains is spoken with Brahmā as the voice of the instruction. The framed stories have carried the hearer. The close says the seer was never one of the things seen.

The last prakaraṇa is sometimes bound as a former half and a latter half. This page does not freeze a chapter inside either half. The name Brahma Gītā is also used, in some lists, for a stretch of the brāhmaṇa's talk inside the Anugītā. That stretch lives in the Mahābhārata. This one lives in Vasiṣṭha's poem to Rāma. No śloka is supplied from memory to look like the text.

What the crest adds

Where it sits

The non-dual verses already sat are Śaṅkara's Upadeśasāhasrī and the Aṣṭāvakra Gītā. The Yoga Vāsiṣṭha is their epic cousin, told as stories. The Brahma Gītā is the cousin's last page, where the stories have finished. The Rāma Gītā is the short close of a different Rāma book, spoken by Rāma himself.
