Lesson 46: He Might Read
Index · Lesson 45: Ought to Be Done · Lesson 47: Do Not Go
पठेत् means “he might read,” or “he should read.” School calls this mood विधिलिङ्. Use it for a wish, a possibility, or a gentle “should.” It is not the command गच्छ from Lesson 19: Commands, and it is not the future.
तुष्यति means “he is glad.” It follows पठति. Its optative follows पठेयम्. तुष्येयम् means “I might be glad,” खुशी होऊँ।
कृ and अस् and दा do not follow पठेत्. Say कुर्यात्, स्यात्, and दद्यात् whole.
