Nyāya Sūtra / Adhyāya 2 / 2.1.39

न, एकदेशत्राससादृश्येभ्यः अर्थान्तरभावात्

na, ekadeśatrāsasādṛśyebhyaḥ arthāntarabhāvāt

The line

Not for a compound: one part, trāsa (त्रास), and sādṛśya (सादृश्य), because of a compound: a different thing, and a state.

Where it sits

In Nyāya (न्याय) Sūtra (सूत्र), adhyāya (अध्याय) 2. Examines doubt, and then examines the means of knowing one by one. The line is short. rodho-paghā-tasā-dṛśi-ebhyaḥ (रोधो-पघा-तसा-दृशि-एभ्यः) from 2.1.38 is still in force. A sūtra (सूत्र) leaves a word out when the line before still holds it. That carrying is anuvṛtti (अनुवृत्ति).

Split: na (न) + ekadeśa-trāsa-sādṛśyebhyaḥ (एकदेश-त्रास-सादृश्येभ्यः) + arthāntara-bhāvāt (अर्थान्तर-भावात्)
