Aṣṭāvakra Gītā / Janaka (अध्याय २) / 2.2

2.2

the Aṣṭāvakra Gītā (अष्टावक्र गीता)

यथा प्रकाशयाम्येको देहमेनं तथा जगत् ।
अतो मम जगत् सर्वमथवा न च किञ्चन
yathā prakāśayāmy eko deham enaṃ tathā jagat |
ato mama jagat sarvam athavā na ca kiñcana

The line

Just as I alone illumine this body, so the world. Therefore the whole world is mine, or else not a thing is.

Where it sits

Janaka is still speaking. The first consequence he draws is about the world and himself.

The phrases

yathā (यथा) and tathā (तथा) share prakāśayāmi (प्रकाशयामि). ekaḥ (एकः) is the subject. deham enam (देहमेनम्) and jagat (जगत्) are the two objects. ataḥ (अतः) draws the consequence: jagat sarvam (जगत् सर्वम्) is mama (मम), or kiñcana (किञ्चन) with na (न).

Sanskrit in this line

prakāśayāmi (प्रकाशयामि) plus ekaḥ (एकः) is prakāśayāmy (प्रकाशयाम्य्) ekaḥ (एकः), because i plus e becomes y. ataḥ (अतः) before mama is ato.
