Aṣṭāvakra Gītā / Adhyāya 1
Adhyāya 1
Summary
Chapter 1 opens with Janaka's question. How is knowledge gained, how will there be liberation, and how is dispassion gained? From the second verse Aṣṭāvakra (अष्टावक्र) answers. You are not the elements. You are the witness, one and free. The chapter walks that answer out to the last of its twenty verses, so the rest of the book has a question and a first reply.
