Śānti (शान्ति)

After the king and the emergency, Bhīṣma teaches mokṣa. The self, the leaving of the merit and the guilt as well as the body, the stories a dying man tells a king who has seen too much body. This is the Mokṣadharma. The shelf's map of it is that page. The verses are not sat. What this sitting adds is the hour. The same mouth that gave the method of its own felling, and the same ear that heard it, are now talking about liberation.

Yudhiṣṭhira asks as a student who has earned the right to distrust beautiful answers. Bhīṣma does not answer him with the war. He answers with the old brahminical store: dialogue, example, the discipline of a mind that can watch a kingdom without becoming it. A reader who came for the plot will feel the poem stop. The stop is the point. A story that only moved would end at the throne. This one refuses to end until the man on the throne has been told that he is not the throne.

The teaching is long enough to contain arguments that do not agree with each other. The poem is a library at this point, and the chronicle will not fake a single doctrine out of it. The thread it will keep is the setting. Liberation is being discussed by a man who cannot move, to a man who does not want to rule, within sight of a field where liberation was not what anyone chose.
