Nāṭyaśāstra (नाट्यशास्त्र), rasa
शृङ्गारानुकृतिर्या तु स हास्यस्तु प्रकीर्तितः ।
रौद्रस्यैव च यत्कर्म स ज्ञेयः करुणो रसः śṛṅgārānukṛtiryā tu sa hāsyastu prakīrtitaḥ |
raudrasyaiva ca yatkarma sa jñeyaḥ karuṇo rasaḥ
The line
The imitation of the erotic is declared to be the comic. And the deed of the furious itself is to be known as the compassionate rasa (रस).
