vibhāvenāhṛto yo 'rtho hyanubhāvaistu gamyate |
vāgaṅgasattvābhinayaiḥ sa bhāva iti saṃjñitaḥ

The line

A meaning brought in by a determinant, and made known by the consequents, by the actings of voice, body, and sattva (सत्त्व): that is designated a bhāva (भाव).

Where it sits

The prose asks whether bhāva (भाव) means 'they come to be' or 'they bring into being.' It answers: they bring into being the meanings of a poem, possessed of voice, body, and sattva (सत्त्व). The root is bhū (भू) in the causal sense, and bhāvita (भावित), vāsita (वासित), and kṛta (कृत) are not different in meaning. The world says a scent or a taste has pervaded everything. This verse is the definition. It answers 6.3.
