नेपालीमा

प्रायः सुखद कुरामा धनी, ऋतु, माला र अरूको सेवा गर्ने, स्त्रीसँग जोडिएको पुरुषलाई शृङ्गार भनिन्छ।

Where it sits

The prose before the verse says śṛṅgāra (शृङ्गार) is born of the stable state rati (रति), and that its nature is a bright costume. Whatever in the world is pure, fit for a rite, bright, or worth seeing is compared with it. It has two bases, union and separation. Union arises from season, garland, unguent, ornament, a desired person, a fine house, enjoyment, a garden, hearing, seeing, play, and grace. Its acting uses the play of the eyes, the brow, the sidelong glance, and sweet movement and speech. Separation is acted with world-weariness, fatigue, anxiety, envy, worry, longing, sleep, dream, waking, sickness, madness, intoxication, epilepsy, torpor, and death. The prose keeps compassion and the separation of lovers as two different states: compassion has no hope of the lost person, and separation still looks toward the person. This verse is the short form.
