Nāṭyaśāstra (नाट्यशास्त्र), rasa
स्थायी सत्त्वातिरेकेण प्रयोक्तव्यः प्रयोक्तृभिः ।
सञ्चार्याकारमात्रेण स्थायी यस्मादवस्थितः sthāyī sattvātirekeṇa prayoktavyaḥ prayoktṛbhiḥ |

Performers should perform the stable one with an excess of sattva (सत्त्व). The passing one is by a mere aspect, because the stable one is what remains.
