The line

Passion arises in activity, and aversion indeed in withdrawal. The wise one, free of pairs, like a child, is settled just so.

Where it sits

Aṣṭāvakra (अष्टावक्र) is still speaking. Passion and aversion are located, and the wise one stands outside both.

The phrases

rāgaḥ (रागः) jāyate (जायते) in pravṛttau (प्रवृत्तौ), and dveṣaḥ (द्वेषः) in nirvṛttau (निर्वृत्तौ). dhīmān (धीमान्) nirdvandvaḥ (निर्द्वन्द्वः) is vyavasthitaḥ (व्यवस्थितः) evam (एवम्) eva (एव), bālavat (बालवत्).

Sanskrit in this line

rāgaḥ (रागः) before n (न्) is rāgo (रागो). dveṣaḥ (द्वेषः) before eva (एव) drops the visarga, the vowels staying apart. nirdvandvaḥ (निर्द्वन्द्वः) before b (ब्) is nirdvandvo (निर्द्वन्द्वो). bālavat (बालवत्) before dh (ध्) is bālavad (बालवद्), the t (त्) becoming d (द्) and h (ह्) not rewritten as one aspirate in this print: the file has d (द्) with virama then dh (ध्). dhīmān (धीमान्) before evam (एवम्) keeps the virama, so n (न्) does not take the vowel.
