the Aṣṭāvakra Gītā (अष्टावक्र गीता)

क्व निरोधो विमूढस्य यो निर्बन्धं करोति वै ।
स्वारामस्यैव धीरस्य सर्वदासावकृत्रिमः
kva nirodho vimūḍhasya yo nirbandhaṃ karoti vai |
svārāmasyaiva dhīrasya sarvadāsāvakṛtrimaḥ

The line

Where is restraint for the very dull one who makes a forced effort? For the steady one who delights in himself, that restraint is always unmade.

नेपालीमा

जबर्जस्ती गर्ने विमूढको निरोध कहाँ? आफैँमा रमाउने धीरको त्यो सधैँ अकृत्रिम हुन्छ।

Where it sits

Astavakra is still speaking. Forced effort is what the very dull one does. The steady one's restraint is said to be unmade.

The phrases

kva (क्व) asks for nirodhaḥ (निरोधः) of vimūḍhasya (विमूढस्य). yaḥ (यः) agrees with him and takes nirbandham (निर्बन्धम्) with karoti (करोति). svārāmasya eva dhīrasya (स्वारामस्य एव धीरस्य) is whose. asau (असौ) points back to that restraint, and akṛtrimaḥ (अकृत्रिमः) agrees with it. sarvadā (सर्वदा) says when.

Sanskrit in this line

nirodhaḥ (निरोधः) plus vimūḍhasya (विमूढस्य) is nirodho. yaḥ (यः) plus nirbandham is yo. svārāmasya (स्वारामस्य) plus eva is svārāmasyaiva (स्वारामस्यैव). sarvadā (सर्वदा) plus asau plus akṛtrimaḥ (अकृत्रिमः) is sarvadāsāvakṛtrimaḥ (सर्वदासावकृत्रिमः). The short a of akṛtrimaḥ (अकृत्रिमः) is dropped, and this edition prints no avagraha.
