The line
The states beginning with love are alterations. Peace is held to be the ground. An alteration born from the things of the ground dissolves back into that same place. Reaching its own occasion, a state proceeds from peace.
Where it sits
A long line, still bracketed. Rati (रति) and the other stable states are called changes. Śānta (शान्त) is called the prakṛti (प्रकृति), the ground they come from and return to. This is the bracketed passage's own claim. 6.38 had called the rasa (रस) states the root of the bhāva (भाव) states. The two claims can be read beside each other.
Split: bhāvā (भावा) vikārā (विकारा) ratyādyāḥ (रत्याद्याः) śāntastu (शान्तस्तु) prakṛtirmataḥ (प्रकृतिर्मतः) / vikāraḥ (विकारः) prakṛtairjātaḥ (प्रकृतैर्जातः) punastatraiva (पुनस्तत्रैव) līyate (लीयते) / svaṃ (स्वं) svaṃ (स्वं) nimittamāsādya (निमित्तमासाद्य) śāntādbhāvaḥ (शान्ताद्भावः) pravartate (प्रवर्तते)
