Nāṭyaśāstra (नाट्यशास्त्र), rasa

yo 'rtho hṛdayasaṃvādī tasya bhāvo rasodbhavaḥ |
śarīraṃ vyāpyate tena śuṣkaṃ kāṣṭhamivāgninā

The line

A meaning that answers the heart has a bhāva (भाव) born as rasa (रस). The body is pervaded by it, as dry wood by fire.

Where it sits

The verse's own likeness. A meaning in concord with the heart becomes the birth of rasa (रस), and it fills the body. This is the chapter's account of why a hearing moves. In the music rooms a rāga (राग) is kept for a dominant rasa (रस). The movement this verse describes is the one those rooms are built to produce. The verse does not name a rāga (राग) or an hour.
