Nāṭyaśāstra (नाट्यशास्त्र), rasa

dhārṣṭyajaihmyādisambhītamavahitthaṃ bhayatmakam |
taccāgaṇanayā kāryaṃ nātīvottarabhāṣaṇāt

The line

Dissimulation, its nature fear, produced from impudence, crookedness, and the rest: it is to be done by not counting it, and not by answering too far.

Where it sits

Avahittha (अवहित्थ), hiding the feeling. The prose says it is the concealing of one's aspect, from shame, fear, defeat, weight, and deceit. The verse says the acting is to treat the thing as nothing, and not to answer at length.

Split: dhārṣṭyajaihmyādisambhītamavahitthaṃ (धार्ष्ट्यजैह्म्यादिसम्भीतमवहित्थं) bhayatmakam (भयत्मकम्) / taccāgaṇanayā (तच्चागणनया) kāryaṃ (कार्यं) nātīvottarabhāṣaṇāt (नातीवोत्तरभाषणात्)
