Gopī Gītā (गोपीगीता)

Bhāgavata 10.31. Kṛṣṇa has left the rāsa, and the gopīs sing to the one who is gone. They call him the self in all selves, the friend, the water a life gets thirsty for. The song is praise and complaint in the same breath. Absence is the teacher. The Bhāgavata hub names the dance and does not stage it. This page names the song and does not stage the circle.

The chapter is the received numeral of the tenth skandha. The flute chapter, 10.21, is the earlier song, sung while he is still in the woods with the cows. That one is the Veṇu Gītā, and six of its twenty verses are already sat on the music shelf. This song comes later, when the flute has stopped and the singer is missing. No śloka is supplied from memory to look like the text.

What they ask

Where it sits

The tenth skandha is the long life the other skandhas lead toward. The Kapila Gītā is the mother's teaching, early. The Uddhava Gītā is the friend's teaching, late, after this song and after Mathurā. The Nārada Bhakti Sūtras are the short śāstra of the love these songs narrate.
