Śiva Purāṇa (शिवपुराण)

The purāṇa of Śiva. The text commonly printed has seven saṃhitās (संहिता). Another recension is shorter, and the Vāyavīya saṃhitā also travels on its own. This page follows the seven of the printed book, and says that the count is the printed book's count. It does not sit the narratives line by line. The philosophical shelves of this god are already elsewhere: the Śiva Sūtra, the Vijñāna Bhairava, and the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam. Those are Kashmir Śaiva sūtras. This purāṇa is the narrative ocean they are not. The profile, among the eighteen, is the Śiva profile.

The seven saṃhitās

• Vidyeśvara (विद्येश्वर). The knowledge of the Lord. The greatness of the liṅga, and the worship the book commends. This page does not turn that commendation into a ritual.
• Rudra (रुद्र). Narratives of Rudra, in five khaṇḍas: Sṛṣṭi, Satī, Pārvatī, Kumāra, and Yuddha. Satī gives up her body at her father Dakṣa's sacrifice. She returns as Pārvatī, and the marriage is won by her tapas. Kumāra is born. This page names her and does not list a body. The household telling of the same hour is Satī and Pārvatī.
• Śatarudra (शतरुद्र). A hundred Rudras. The incarnations of Śiva.
• Koṭirudra (कोटिरुद्र). The twelve jyotirliṅgas and their stories.
• Umā (उमा). The greatness of the goddess. The fruits of deeds and the hells. Gifts and vows.
• Kailāsa (कैलास). The doctrine taught on Kailāsa: the meaning of oṃ and the renunciant's way.
• Vāyavīya (वायवीय). Spoken in Vāyu's mouth. The printed book's doctrinal close: a telling of Śiva that argues, rather than only narrates. It is not the Śiva Sūtra. A purāṇa's philosophy and a sūtra's philosophy can share a god and still be different books.

नेपालीमा

शिवपुराण शिवको पुराण हो। प्रायः छापिने पाठमा सात संहिता छन्। अर्को पाठ छोटो छ, र वायवीय संहिता एक्लै पनि हिँड्छ। यो पृष्ठ छापिएको पुस्तकका सात संहिता मान्छ, र त्यो गन्ती त्यही पुस्तकको हो भन्छ। कथाका श्लोक एक-एक गरी समावेश गरिएका छैनन्। यी देवताका दार्शनिक तह अन्तै छन्। ती शिवसूत्र, विज्ञानभैरव र प्रत्यभिज्ञाहृदय हुन्। ती काश्मीरका सूत्र हुन्। यो पुराण ती सूत्रमा नभएको कथाको समुद्र हो।

विद्येश्वर संहितामा लिङ्गको महिमा छ। रुद्र संहिताका पाँच खण्ड छन्: सृष्टि, सती, पार्वती, कुमार, र युद्ध। रुद्र संहितामा सतीले दक्षको यज्ञमा शरीर त्यागेको, पार्वतीको तपस्या र विवाह, र कुमारको जन्म छ। यो पृष्ठले उनको नाम लिन्छ। शरीरको सूची बनाउँदैन। शतरुद्र संहितामा शिवका अवतार छन्। कोटिरुद्र संहितामा बाह्र ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग र तिनका कथा छन्। उमा संहितामा देवीको महिमा, कर्मफल, नरक र दान छन्। कैलास संहितामा कैलासमा भनिएको उपदेश, ओंको अर्थ र संन्यासीको मार्ग छन्। वायवीय संहिता वायुको मुखबाट भनिएको दार्शनिक अन्त्य हो। शिवसूत्र होइन।

Where it sits

The Viṣṇu Purāṇa and the Bhāgavata are the Vaiṣṇava center of this pillar. This is the Śaiva center. The Īśvara Gītā belongs to the Kūrma, the Śiva Gītā travels with the Padma, and the Guru Gītā introduces itself as Skanda. Those three are other books. The seven saṃhitās stay this one. The deer who stayed in the valley is a household page, Paśupati. That page is not a chapter of this purāṇa.
