Kapila Gītā (कपिलगीता)
In the third skandha of the Bhāgavata, Kapila teaches his mother Devahūti. Kapila here is the avatāra, son of Kardama and Devahūti. The Sāṅkhya Kārikā is Īśvarakṛṣṇa's book, seventy-two verses, already sat on the darśana shelf. Kapila's talk is a Sāṅkhya joined to devotion, spoken by a son to his mother. The hub calls them cousins. This page is the cousin's own door.
Devahūti asks how a bound person gets free. Kapila sets out puruṣa (पुरुष) and prakṛti (प्रकृति), the coming-forth of the world, and the way attention can go back along that coming-forth. Bhakti is the means he trusts. A map of the categories, carried without devotion, is a map a person can hold and still be lost in. The stretch is often printed as chapters 25 through 33 of the third skandha. The mother hears it through, and the skandha tells her release. No śloka is supplied from memory to look like the text.
What she is given
- A picture of how a world comes out of prakṛti when puruṣa is forgotten as other than it.
- A way back: attention, devotion, and the company of people who have already turned.
- Time, consequence, and the lives a mind walks when it will not turn. The skandha is willing to be grim about that walking.
- A hearer who is a parent, so the teaching has a household, the way the Uddhava Gītā later has a friend on the last day.
Where it sits
The four seed verses are what Brahmā heard before a world. Kapila is a teacher inside a world, speaking to one mother. The twenty-four teachers of the eleventh skandha, sat as Bhāgavata 11.7.33–35, are a later lesson in the same purāṇa. Their speaker is an avadhūta talking to King Yadu. Kapila's hearer is Devahūti.
