Purāṇa / Kūrma Purāṇa / Īśvara Gītā
Īśvara Gītā (ईश्वरगीता)
The dialogue that opens the second part of the Kūrma Purāṇa, the Uparibhāga, as that profile already says. Śiva teaches the sages. The shape is kin to the Bhagvad Gītā: a teacher, a company of hearers, a vision, and a teaching on knowledge and devotion. The kinship of shape is the fact a reader can check by reading. Which book learned from which is a question this shelf leaves open. The profile's other point stands with it. A purāṇa the Padma list calls tamas carries a Śaiva teaching a devotee may love. The label and the page can be seen at once.
The tortoise, Viṣṇu as Kūrma, is the purāṇa's speaker at the churning. The Īśvara Gītā is Śiva's voice inside that book. Two gods, one printed text, and a second part that begins by letting Śiva teach. The dialogue is mapped here. No śloka is supplied from memory to look like the text.
What the sages are given
- A Śaiva account of the self and of the Lord, spoken to hearers who had come for a purāṇa's lore.
- A vision, so the teaching has something larger than a sentence to survive.
- Devotion and knowledge named together, in a book whose outer frame is the support under the churning.
- A reminder, which the profile already prints, that the Padma's guṇa column does not describe this dialogue.
Where it sits
