6.45

प्रयत्नाद्यतमानस्तु योगी संशुद्धकिल्बिषः ।
अनेकजन्मसंसिद्धस्ततो याति परां गतिम् ॥

prayatnād yatamānas tu yogī saṃśuddhakilbiṣaḥ
anekajanmasaṃsiddhas tato yāti parāṃ gatim

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is still speaking. gatim (गतिम्) answers the kām gatim (काम् गतिम्) of 6.37.

The verse

The yogin who keeps striving with effort, his stain cleared, perfected through many births, then goes to the highest path.

नेपालीमा

प्रयाससहित लागिरहने योगी, कलङ्क मेटिएर, धेरै जन्ममा सिद्ध भएर, त्यसपछि सर्वोच्च बाटोमा जान्छ।

Where it sits

The man who fell is not given a small consolation. Across births the striving finishes, and the path is the highest one. 6.46 will say, beside that, that the yogin stands above the ascetic, the knower, and the ritualist.

The phrases

prayatnāt yatamānaḥ (प्रयत्नात् यतमानः) is the yogin who keeps striving, and the ablative says the striving is out of effort. saṃśuddhakilbiṣaḥ (संशुद्धकिल्बिषः) is the cleared stain. anekajanmasaṃsiddhaḥ (अनेकजन्मसंसिद्धः) is the perfection that took more than one birth. The births of 6.41 and 6.42 are inside that "many."

tataḥ yāti parām gatim (ततः याति पराम् गतिम्) is the end. Then he goes to the highest path. This is the gati (गति) Arjuna asked for.

prayatnāt yatamānaḥ (प्रयत्नात् यतमानः) is prayatnādyatamānaḥ (प्रयत्नाद्यतमानः). yatamānaḥ tu (यतमानः तु) is yatamānastu (यतमानस्तु). saṃsiddhaḥ tataḥ (संसिद्धः ततः) is saṃsiddhastataḥ (संसिद्धस्ततः).

Sanskrit in this line

prayatnāt (प्रयत्नात्) is ablative, "from effort," used as the source of the striving. Final t (त्) before y (य्) is recited d (द्): prayatnād yatamānaḥ (प्रयत्नाद्यतमानः). The same joining makes tasmāt yogī (तस्मात् योगी) into tasmādyogī (तस्माद्योगी) in 6.46. yatamānaḥ (यतमानः) is the middle participle, "striving," and it agrees with yogī (योगी).

Say it back

Across how many births, and which path. If parām gatim (पराम् गतिम्) is said as "a good enough birth," the verse has been stopped at 6.41.
