7.22

स तया श्रद्धया युक्तस्तस्याराधनमीहते ।
लभते च ततः कामान्मयैव विहितान्हि तान् ॥

sa tayā śraddhayā yuktas tasyārādhanam īhate
labhate ca tataḥ kāmān mayaiva vihitān hi tān

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is speaking, to Arjuna (अर्जुन).

The verse

Yoked with that faith, he works at the worship of that form, and from it he obtains those desires, which I myself have arranged.

नेपालीमा

त्यो श्रद्धाले युक्त भएर ऊ त्यस रूपको पूजा गर्छ, र त्यसबाट ती इच्छाहरू पाउँछ, जसलाई मैले नै मिलाएको छु।

Where it sits

7.21 was the faith, made firm by him. This verse is the worship and the fruit. The other gods are not denied. The desires that come back were set in place by him. 7.23 will say what kind of fruit that is, and where it ends.

The phrases

saḥ tayā śraddhayā yuktaḥ (सः तया श्रद्धया युक्तः) is the devotee with the faith Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) just made firm. तस्य आराधनम् ईहते tasya ārādhanam īhate is the work he then does: he strives at the worship of that form.

labhate ca tataḥ kāmān (लभते च ततः कामान्) is what he receives from that worship. The desires. mayā eva vihitān hi tān (मया एव विहितान् हि तान्) says whose arrangement those desires were. His. The instrumental mayā (मया) is "by me," and eva (एव) keeps it from being shared with the deity as a second source.

Sanskrit in this line

युक्तः + तस्य + आराधनम् yuktaḥ + tasya + ārādhanam is recited yuktas tasyārādhanam (युक्तस्तस्याराधनम्). Two joins, and both hide a word boundary.

aḥ (अः) before voiceless t (त्) becomes s (स्). yuktaḥ tasya (युक्तः तस्य) is yuktas tasya (युक्तस्तस्य). The स्त st looks like the inside of one word.

अ + आ a + ā becomes ā (आ). तस्य + आराधनम् tasya + ārādhanam is tasyārādhanam (तस्याराधनम्). The ā (आ) of ārādhana (आराधन) is the only vowel left. Put the ā (आ) back when you split, or the worship-word loses its prefix.

सः + तया saḥ + tayā is sa tayā (स तया), not sas tayā (सस्तया). The pronoun saḥ (सः) drops its visarga before a consonant. An ordinary noun in --aḥ (अः) would have become --as (अस्), which is what yuktaḥ (युक्तः) does in this same line.

Say it back

Faith, worship, fruit. The fruit has to be arranged by him. If mayā (मया) drops, the desires come from the other god alone, and the verse has lost its point.
