Arjuna continues, in four quarters of eleven, and this is the last verse of his speech. Meter: triṣṭubh (त्रिष्टुभ्). Four quarters, eleven syllables each, forty-four in the verse.

The verse

I do not see what would drive off this grief of mine that dries up the senses, even having obtained on the earth an unrivaled prosperous kingship, and overlordship even of the gods.

नेपालीमा

इन्द्रिय सुकाउने मेरो यो शोक हटाउने केही म देख्दिन, पृथ्वीमा बेजोड समृद्ध राज्य पाए पनि, र देवताहरूको आधिपत्य पाए पनि।

Where it sits

He closes his own case: the kingdom he said he did not want would not dry this grief. Sañjaya (सञ्जय) is about to report the stopping.

The phrases

न हि प्रपश्यामि यत् मम शोकम् अपनुद्यात् na hi prapaśyāmi yat mama śokam apanudyāt is the failure of sight. I do not see what would drive off my grief. yat (यत्) is the subject of apanudyāt (अपनुद्यात्) and the thing not seen. मम + अपनुद्यात् mama + apanudyāt is mamāpanudyāt (ममापनुद्यात्). अपनुद्यात् + यत् apanudyāt + yat is apanudyād yat (अपनुद्याद् यत्), and यत् + शोकम् yat + śokam is yac chokam (यच्छोकम्). You hear mamāpanudyād yac chokam (ममापनुद्याद्यच्छोकम्).

उच्छोषणम् इन्द्रियाणाम् ucchoṣaṇam indriyāṇām describes the grief. It dries up the senses.

अवाप्य भूमौ असपत्नम् ऋद्धम् राज्यम् सुराणाम् अपि च आधिपत्यम् avāpya bhūmau asapatnam ṛddham rājyam surāṇām api ca ādhipatyam is the concession. Even having obtained, on the earth, a prosperous kingship without a rival, and even overlordship of the gods. भूमौ + असपत्नम् bhūmau + asapatnam is bhūmāv asapatnam (भूमावसपत्नम्): au (औ) before a vowel becomes āv (आव्). च + आधिपत्यम् ca + ādhipatyam is cādhipatyam (चाधिपत्यम्).

Sanskrit in this line

भूमौ + असपत्नम् bhūmau + asapatnam is recited bhūmāvasapatnam (भूमावसपत्नम्). Final au (औ) before a vowel becomes āv (आव्), and the next vowel stays. The locative is still locative after the ending has turned into āv (आव्). The same change hid the dual pūjārhau (पूजार्हौ) in 2.4. Here the case you must not lose is "on the earth."

Say it back

What he cannot see, and the two lordships that would not remove it. bhūmau (भूमौ) has to survive the āv (आव्).
