Some offer hearing and the other senses into the fires of restraint; others offer sound and the other objects into the fires of the senses.

नेपालीमा

कतिपयले सुन्ने इन्द्रिय र अरू इन्द्रियहरूलाई संयमका आगोमा चढाउँछन्। अरूले शब्द र अरू विषयहरूलाई इन्द्रियका आगोमा चढाउँछन्।

Where it sits

The list of 4.25 turns inward: one group puts the senses into restraint, another puts the objects into the senses, and neither group is dismissed. 4.33 is the verse that ranks them.

The phrases

śrotrādīni indriyāṇi anye saṃyamāgniṣu juhvati (श्रोत्रादीनि इन्द्रियाणि अन्ये संयमाग्निषु जुह्वति) is one offering. Others offer hearing and the other senses into the fires of restraint. śrotrādīni indriyāṇi (श्रोत्रादीनि इन्द्रियाणि) is śrotrādīnīndriyāṇi (श्रोत्रादीनीन्द्रियाणि), because इ + इ i + i becomes ī (ई). Then indriyāṇi anye (इन्द्रियाणि अन्ये) is indriyāṇy anye (इन्द्रियाण्यन्ये).

शब्दादीन् विषयान् अन्ये इन्द्रियाग्निषु जुह्वति śabdādīn viṣayān anye indriyāgniṣu juhvati is the other offering. Others offer sound and the other objects into the fires of the senses. śabdādīn viṣayān (शब्दादीन् विषयान्) is śabdādīn viṣayān (शब्दादीन्विषयान्). The second anye (अन्ये) is recited anya (अन्य) at the pause. See the note below.

Sanskrit in this line

The half-verse pauses after anye (अन्ये). Final e (ए) before a vowel other than a (अ) becomes a (अ), and here the next vowel is not swallowed, because the pause needs the syllable. अन्ये + इन्द्रिय anye + indriya is recited anya indriya (अन्य इन्द्रिय), not anyendriya (अन्येन्द्रिय). If you join them into one word you eat a syllable of the quarter. The word is still anye (अन्ये), nominative plural.
