इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेषु वर्तन्त इति धारयन् ॥

pralapan visṛjan gṛhṇann unmiṣan nimiṣann api
indriyāṇīndriyārtheṣu vartanta iti dhārayan

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) continues. The participles are still the tattvavit (तत्त्ववित्) of 5.8. This verse finishes his list and gives him a second thought to hold.

The verse

And while speaking, letting go, grasping, opening the eyes and closing them, he holds this: the senses move among the objects of the senses.

नेपालीमा

र बोल्दा, छाड्दा, लिँदा, आँखा खोल्दा र चिम्दा पनि ऊ इन्द्रियहरू इन्द्रियका विषयमा चल्छन् भन्ने धारणा राख्छ।

Where it sits

5.8 put "I do nothing at all" in his mouth while the acts were named. This verse says where those acts belong. They belong to the senses, moving among their objects. He holds that, and the "I" of 5.8 stays empty.

The phrases

प्रलपन् विसृजन् गृह्णन् उन्मिषन् निमिषन् अपि pralapan visṛjan gṛhṇan unmiṣan nimiṣan api continues the list. Speaking, letting go, grasping, opening the eyes, closing them. api (अपि) means these too, on top of 5.8.

indriyāṇi indriyārtheṣu vartante iti (इन्द्रियाणि इन्द्रियार्थेषु वर्तन्ते इति) is the thought he holds. "The senses move among the objects of the senses." dhārayan (धारयन्) is "holding" that thought. The subject of dhārayan (धारयन्) is still the man of 5.8. The subject of vartante (वर्तन्ते) is the senses, inside the thought.

indriyāṇi indriyārtheṣu (इन्द्रियाणि इन्द्रियार्थेषु) is recited indriyāṇīndriyārtheṣu (इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेषु). The recited verb is vartanta iti (वर्तन्त इति). The e (ए) of vartante (वर्तन्ते) is not heard before iti (इति).

Sanskrit in this line

The recited words are vartanta iti (वर्तन्त इति). The verb is vartante (वर्तन्ते), "they move." Its final e (ए) is dropped before iti (इति). Put the e (ए) back when you split. If you leave it off, the iti (इति) clause has no verb, and the senses have nothing to do in their objects. This e (ए) is the whole predicate.

Say it back

Finish the list, then say what the senses do. If vartante (वर्तन्ते) is missing and the objects have no verb, stay here.
