5.14

न कर्तृत्वं न कर्माणि लोकस्य सृजति प्रभुः ।
न कर्मफलसंयोगं स्वभावस्तु प्रवर्तते ॥

na kartṛtvaṃ na karmāṇi lokasya sṛjati prabhuḥ
na karmaphalasaṃyogaṃ svabhāvas tu pravartate

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) continues. The one who sits in the city is now called prabhuḥ (प्रभुः), and three things are taken out of his hands.

The verse

The lord does not create doership for people, nor their actions, nor the joining of an action to its fruit, but nature proceeds.

Where it sits

5.13 had the embodied one neither doing nor causing. This verse says the same thing from the side of the lord: agency, acts, and the link of fruit are not his products. What rolls on is svabhāvaḥ (स्वभावः). The next verse will say he also does not take on anyone's evil or anyone's good deed.

Split: न + कर्तृत्वम् + न + कर्माणि + लोकस्य + सृजति + प्रभुः + न + कर्म-फल-संयोगम् + स्वभावः + तु + प्रवर्तते

na + kartṛtvam + na + karmāṇi + lokasya + sṛjati + prabhuḥ + na + karma-phala-saṃyogam + svabhāvaḥ + tu + pravartate

The phrases

Three objects, three times na (न), one verb. prabhuḥ (प्रभुः) does not create kartṛtvam (कर्तृत्वम्), he does not create karmāṇi (कर्माणि), and he does not create karmaphalasaṃyogam (कर्मफलसंयोगम्). lokasya (लोकस्य) says whose world this is. The doership of people is not a thing he sends forth.

svabhāvaḥ tu pravartate (स्वभावः तु प्रवर्तते) is what does go on. Nature proceeds. The tu (तु) turns the verse from the lord who does not produce these three to the way of things that keeps moving.

svabhāvaḥ tu (स्वभावः तु) is recited svabhāvas tu (स्वभावस्तु).

Sanskrit in this line

--tva (त्व) makes an abstract noun. kartṛ (कर्तृ) is "the doer." kartṛtva (कर्तृत्व) is "doership," the state of being that doer. The verse can deny the state without denying that acts occur. The acts are denied in the next object, karmāṇi (कर्माणि), as his creation. The state and the acts are two separate accusatives, and each has its own na (न).

Say it back

List the three things he does not create, then say what proceeds. If svabhāvaḥ (स्वभावः) is left out, the verse is only a refusal and has no motion left in it.
