Where it sits

6.8 made a clod and gold the same. This verse puts people where the clod and the gold were. The stretch that began with the definition of the renouncer ends on the even mind. The sitting itself begins at 6.10.

The phrases

The first line is one long locative. Seven kinds of person, and the case ending sits only on bandhuṣu (बन्धुषु). Among all of them.

sādhuṣu api ca pāpeṣu (साधुषु अपि च पापेषु) adds the moral pair, the good and the wicked. samabuddhiḥ viśiṣyate (समबुद्धिः विशिष्यते) is the whole predicate. The one whose understanding is even is the one who stands out.

suhṛd (सुहृद्) before mitra (मित्र) is recited suhṛn (सुहृन्). ari udāsīna (अरि उदासीन) is aryudāsīna (अर्युदासीन). sādhuṣu api (साधुषु अपि) is sādhuṣvapi (साधुष्वपि). samabuddhiḥ (समबुद्धिः) before v (व्) is samabuddhir (समबुद्धिर्).

Sanskrit in this line

In a dvandva, the case ending is added once, on the last member. suhṛd (सुहृद्), mitra (मित्र), ari (अरि), udāsīna (उदासीन), madhyastha (मध्यस्थ), dveṣya (द्वेष्य), and bandhu (बन्धु) are seven stems. Only bandhuṣu (बन्धुषु) is locative plural. A dental before a nasal becomes that nasal: suhṛd (सुहृद्) plus mitra (मित्र) is suhṛnmitra (सुहृन्मित्र).

Say it back

Name the seven, then the good and the wicked, then the one who is set apart. If samabuddhiḥ (समबुद्धिः) becomes "he likes them all," stay here.
