6.14

प्रशान्तात्मा विगतभीर्ब्रह्मचारिव्रते स्थितः ।
मनः संयम्य मच्चित्तो युक्त आसीत मत्परः ॥

praśāntātmā vigatabhīr brahmacārivrate sthitaḥ
manaḥ saṃyamya maccitto yukta āsīta matparaḥ

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is still speaking. āsīta (आसीत) is the verb that the participles of 6.11–6.14 have been waiting for.

The verse

With the self grown quiet, fear gone, established in the brahmacārin's vow, having drawn the mind in, he should sit yoked, his mind on me, with me as the highest.

नेपालीमा

आत्मा शान्त भएको, डर गएको, ब्रह्मचारीको व्रतमा अडिएको, मन भित्र तानेर, ऊ युक्त भएर बस्नुपर्छ, मन ममा राखेर, मलाई सर्वोच्च मानेर।

Where it sits

The seat, the body, and the gaze were preparation. The verb is "he should sit," and the mind he sits with is turned toward Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण). The training is not aimed at a blank.

The phrases

praśāntātmā vigatabhīḥ (प्रशान्तात्मा विगतभीः) is the man, quiet and without fear. brahmacārivrate sthitaḥ (ब्रह्मचारिव्रते स्थितः) is the vow he sits inside.

manaḥ saṃyamya (मनः संयम्य) is the mind, drawn in. maccittaḥ (मच्चित्तः) and matparaḥ (मत्परः) turn that mind toward the speaker. yuktaḥ āsīta (युक्तः आसीत) is the command the previous verses were building: he should sit, yoked.

vigatabhīḥ (विगतभीः) before b (ब्) is vigatabhīr (विगतभीर्). mat cittaḥ (मत् चित्तः) is maccittaḥ (मच्चित्तः), t (त्) meeting c (च्). yuktaḥ āsīta (युक्तः आसीत) is yukta āsīta (युक्त आसीत).

Sanskrit in this line

mat- (मत्-) is the combining form of "me." It is not a case ending. Inside a compound it means the first person, the speaker. maccittaḥ (मच्चित्तः) is "whose mind is on me." matparaḥ (मत्परः) is "whose highest is me." You cannot read the verse if mat (मत्) is taken as a separate word.

Say it back

How he sits, and toward whom. If matparaḥ (मत्परः) comes out as "his own highest," the speaker has been removed.
