6.33

अर्जुन उवाच
योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन ।
एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥

arjuna uvāca
yo 'yaṃ yogas tvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana
etasyāhaṃ na paśyāmi cañcalatvāt sthitiṃ sthirām

Arjuna is speaking. The long speech of Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) has stopped.

The verse

Arjuna said: This yoga which you have taught as evenness, Madhusūdana, I do not see a firm standing for it, because of restlessness.

नेपालीमा

अर्जुनले भने, यो योग जसलाई तपाईंले समता भनेर सिकाउनुभयो, हे मधुसूदन, चञ्चलताका कारण म यसको दृढ स्थिति देख्दिनँ।

Where it sits

The practice has been described as if the mind will come to rest. Arjuna stops it. Evenness needs a firm standing, and he cannot see one. The next verse names the mind as the reason.

The phrases

yaḥ ayam yogaḥ tvayā proktaḥ sāmyena (यः अयम् योगः त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन) names what he has just heard. This yoga you taught as evenness. sāmya (साम्य) is the sama (सम) of 6.29 and 6.32.

etasya aham na paśyāmi sthitim sthirām (एतस्य अहम् न पश्यामि स्थितिम् स्थिराम्) is the objection. I do not see a firm standing for it. cañcalatvāt (चञ्चलत्वात्) is why. Because of restlessness. He has not yet said the mind. 6.34 will.

yaḥ ayam (यः अयम्) is yo 'yam (योऽयम्). yogaḥ tvayā (योगः त्वया) is yogastvayā (योगस्त्वया). etasya aham (एतस्य अहम्) is etasyāham (एतस्याहम्).

Sanskrit in this line

cañcalatvāt (चञ्चलत्वात्) is an ablative of cause. The suffix --tva (त्व) makes a noun, "restlessness," and the ablative --āt (आत्) says "because of." tvayā (त्वया) is the instrumental of the agent with the past participle proktaḥ (प्रोक्तः): taught by you. Same construction as yena jitaḥ (येन जितः) in 6.6.

Say it back

What he cannot see, and why. If sthitim sthirām (स्थितिम् स्थिराम्) comes out as "he refuses yoga," the objection has been enlarged.
