7.13

त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभिः सर्वमिदं जगत् ।
मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्यः परमव्ययम् ॥

tribhir guṇamayair bhāvair ebhiḥ sarvam idaṃ jagat
mohitaṃ nābhijānāti mām ebhyaḥ param avyayam

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is speaking, to Arjuna (अर्जुन).

The verse

Deluded by these three states made of the strands, this whole world does not recognize me, higher than they are, and imperishable.

नेपालीमा

गुणले बनेका यी तीन अवस्थाबाट मोहित भएर यो सारा संसारले मलाई चिन्दैन, जो तिनीहरूभन्दा माथि छु र अविनाशी छु।

Where it sits

7.12 said the states come from him and do not contain him. This verse says what that does to the world. The same states delude it, so it cannot see the one they come from.

The phrases

tribhiḥ guṇa-mayaiḥ bhāvaiḥ ebhiḥ (त्रिभिः गुण-मयैः भावैः एभिः) is one instrumental phrase. By these three states made of the strands. Four words, one "by." They are the states 7.12 just sorted.

सर्वम् इदम् जगत् मोहितम् न अभिजानाति sarvam idam jagat mohitam na abhijānāti is the world, deluded by those states, not recognizing him. The neuter mohitam (मोहितम्) agrees with jagat (जगत्). The world is the subject.

माम् एभ्यः परम् अव्ययम् mām ebhyaḥ param avyayam is the object it fails to recognize. Him, higher than these states, and imperishable. ebhyaḥ (एभ्यः) is ablative, "than," with param (परम्). It is not the same word as ebhiḥ (एभिः).

Sanskrit in this line

ebhiḥ (एभिः) and ebhyaḥ (एभ्यः) are the same pronoun, idam (इदम्) "this," in two cases, and the verse needs both.

ebhiḥ (एभिः) is instrumental plural, "by these." It agrees with tribhiḥ (त्रिभिः), guṇa-mayaiḥ (गुण-मयैः), and bhāvaiḥ (भावैः). Those answer "by what is the world deluded."

ebhyaḥ (एभ्यः) is ablative plural, "than these." With param (परम्) it answers "higher than what." The people who do not recognize him are failing both: they do not see past the states that delude them, and they do not see that he is beyond those states.

Before the voiced sounds that follow them, the visargas of tribhiḥ (त्रिभिः), guṇa-mayaiḥ (गुण-मयैः), and bhāvaiḥ (भावैः) are recited as r (र्): tribhir guṇamayair bhāvair ebhiḥ (त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभिः).

Say it back

What deludes the world, then what it does not recognize. If ebhyaḥ (एभ्यः) is said as "by these," the same as ebhiḥ (एभिः), stay here.
