Arjuna (अर्जुन) is still speaking, to Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण). Meter: triṣṭubh (त्रिष्टुभ्). Four quarters, eleven syllables each, forty-four in the verse.

The verse

You lick again and again, swallowing the entire worlds from every side with flaming mouths; having filled the whole world with brilliance, your fierce rays scorch, O Viṣṇu (विष्णु).

नेपालीमा

तपाईं ज्वालामय मुखले सबैतिरबाट सारा लोक निल्दै बारम्बार चाट्नुहुन्छ। हे विष्णु, सारा जगत् तेजले भरेर तपाईंका प्रचण्ड किरण पोल्छन्।

Where it sits

The likenesses are over. He speaks to the form directly: you lick, you swallow. The next verse will stop describing and ask who, and what the activity is.

The phrases

lelihyase grasamānaḥ samantāt lokān samagrān vadanaiḥ jvaladbhiḥ (लेलिह्यसे ग्रसमानः समन्तात् लोकान् समग्रान् वदनैः ज्वलद्भिः) is the mouth at work. You lick again and again, swallowing the worlds entire from every side, with flaming mouths.

tejobhiḥ āpūrya jagat samagram bhāsaḥ tava ugrāḥ pratapanti (तेजोभिः आपूर्य जगत् समग्रम् भासः तव उग्राः प्रतपन्ति) is the light after the swallowing. Having filled the whole world with brilliance, your fierce rays scorch, O Viṣṇu (विष्णु).

Sanskrit in this line

lelihyase (लेलिह्यसे) is the intensive of lih (लिह्), "lick." The intensive repeats the root and means the act again and again. The ending --se (से) is second person singular. समन्तात् + लोकान् samantāt + lokān is recited across the quarter as समन्ताल्- / लोकान्. t (त्) before l (ल्) becomes l (ल्). The hyphen keeps that l (ल्) on the first line. The word is still samantāt (समन्तात्).

Say it back

What the mouths are doing, and what the rays do after. If lelihyase (लेलिह्यसे) comes out as a single calm lick, the intensive was flattened.
