Arjuna (अर्जुन) is still speaking, to Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण). Meter: triṣṭubh (त्रिष्टुभ्). Four quarters, eleven syllables each, forty-four in the verse.

The verse

Therefore, bowing and laying down my body, I seek the grace of you, the lord to be praised; as a father with a son, as a friend with a friend, as a beloved with the beloved, you should bear with me, O god.

Where it sits

He gives back the word sakhi (सखि), not as the rank he claimed, but as the kindness he is asking for. The next verse will say the sight has thrilled him and broken him, and will ask for the other form.

pitā iva putrasya sakhā iva sakhyuḥ priyaḥ priyāyāḥ arhasi deva soḍhum (पिता इव पुत्रस्य सखा इव सख्युः प्रियः प्रियायाः अर्हसि देव सोढुम्) is how he asks to be borne. As a father toward a son, as a friend toward a friend, as a beloved toward the beloved, you should bear with me.

Sanskrit in this line

iva (इव) builds the three likenesses, and each pair is nominative plus genitive. पिता + इव pitā + iva is piteva (पितेव). सखा + इव sakhā + iva is sakheva (सखेव). ā (आ) plus i (इ) is e (ए). प्रियायाः + अर्हसि priyāyāḥ + arhasi is priyāyārhasi (प्रियायार्हसि): āḥ (आः) before a vowel leaves ā (आ), and the following a (अ) is lost in that joining. The parallel with putrasya (पुत्रस्य) and sakhyuḥ (सख्युः) is genitive.

Say it back

The three likenesses, and what he asks to be borne. If soḍhum (सोढुम्) comes out as "to see," the request has jumped ahead to 11.45.
