dṛṣṭvā rūpaṃ ghoram īdṛṅ mamedam
vyapetabhīḥ prītamanāḥ punas tvaṃ
tad eva me rūpam idaṃ prapaśya

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is still speaking, to Arjuna (अर्जुन). Meter: triṣṭubh (त्रिष्टुभ्). Four quarters, eleven syllables each, forty-four in the verse.

The verse

Let there be no distress and no bewilderment from having seen such a terrible form of mine; fear gone and mind pleased, see again this very form of mine.

नेपालीमा

मेरो यस्तो भयानक रूप देखेर कष्ट र भ्रम नहोस्। डर हटाएर र मन प्रसन्न पारेर मेरो यही रूप फेरि हेर।

Where it sits

He answers 11.45 and 11.46 before the form changes. The terrible form is to be set down. The form he says "this one" is the one Arjuna (अर्जुन) asked for. Sañjaya (सञ्जय) will report the change in the next verse.

The phrases

mā te vyathā mā ca vimūḍha-bhāvaḥ (मा ते व्यथा मा च विमूढ-भावः) forbids the two results of the sight. Let there be no distress of yours, and no bewildered state.

दृष्ट्वा रूपम् घोरम् ईदृक् मम इदम् dṛṣṭvā rūpam ghoram īdṛk mama idam names the cause he is lifting. Having seen this terrible form of mine, such as it is.

व्यपेत-भीः प्रीत-मनाः पुनः त्वम् तत् एव मे रूपम् इदम् प्रपश्य vyapeta-bhīḥ prīta-manāḥ punaḥ tvam tat eva me rūpam idam prapaśya is the return. Fear gone, mind pleased, see again this form of mine, that very one.

Sanskrit in this line

mā (मा) here is not followed by a verb. It sits with a noun: mā te vyathā (मा ते व्यथा), "let there be no distress of yours." The prohibition is on the thing's being, not on an act. ईदृक् + मम īdṛk + mama is īdṛṅ mama (ईदृङ्मम). Final k (क्) of īdṛk (ईदृक्) before m (म्) becomes the nasal ṅ (ङ्). vimūḍha-bhāvaḥ (विमूढ-भावः) before dṛṣṭvā (दृष्ट्वा) is vimūḍhabhāvo (विमूढभावो).

Say it back

What is to leave him, and what he is to see again. If the terrible form stays as the thing to look at, तत् एव रूपम् tat eva rūpam was pointed at the wrong form.
