11.52
श्रीभगवानुवाच
सुदुर्दर्शमिदं रूपं दृष्टवानसि यन्मम ।
देवा अप्यस्य रूपस्य नित्यं दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः ॥
śrībhagavān uvāca
sudurdarśam idaṃ rūpaṃ dṛṣṭavān asi yan mama
devā apyasya rūpasya nityaṃ darśanakāṅkṣiṇaḥ
śrībhagavān (श्रीभगवान्) is speaking. The line is recited śrībhagavānuvāca (श्रीभगवानुवाच). The speaker is Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण).
The verse
Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) said: This form of mine which you have seen is very hard to see; even the gods are constantly desirous of the sight of it.
नेपालीमा
कृष्णले भने, तिमीले देखेको मेरो यो रूप देख्न निकै गाह्रो छ। देवताहरू पनि सधैँ यसको दर्शन चाहन्छन्।
Where it sits
The gentle form is back, and he does not treat the vision as a small thing now that it is over. Even the gods want it. 11.53 will say the Vedas and the austerities do not give it, which 11.48 already said of the terrible form.

Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| देवनागरी | Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| सु-दुर्दर्शम् | su-durdarśam | nominative neuter | very hard to see. su (सु) intensifies. durdarśa (दुर्दर्श) is ill to see. |
| इदम् | idam | nominative neuter | this. |
| रूपम् | rūpam | nominative | form. |
| दृष्टवान् | dṛṣṭavān | nominative | one who has seen. The past participle in --vat (वत्). |
| असि | asi | present, 2nd singular | you are. |
| यत् | yat | accusative neuter | which. |
| मम | mama | genitive | my. |
| देवाः | devāḥ | nominative plural | the gods. |
| अपि | api | indeclinable | even. |
| अस्य | asya | genitive | of this. |
| रूपस्य | rūpasya | genitive | of the form. |
| नित्यम् | nityam | indeclinable | always. Constantly. |
| दर्शन-काङ्क्षिणः | darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ | nominative plural | desirous of the sight. kāṅkṣin (काङ्क्षिन्) is "desiring." |
The phrases
सु-दुर्दर्शम् इदम् रूपम् दृष्टवान् असि यत् मम su-durdarśam idam rūpam dṛṣṭavān asi yat mama tells him what he has had. This form of mine, very hard to see, is the one you have seen.
devāḥ api asya rūpasya nityam darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ (देवाः अपि अस्य रूपस्य नित्यम् दर्शन-काङ्क्षिणः) sets the gods below that seeing. Even they are always desirous of the sight of this form. Desire of a sight is not the sight.
Sanskrit in this line
देवाः + अपि devāḥ + api is recited devā api (देवा अपि), with both vowels heard, and then अपि + अस्य api + asya joins as apyasya (अप्यस्य). The line is devā apyasya (देवा अप्यस्य). If the a (अ) of api (अपि) were swallowed, the quarter would lose a syllable. दृष्टवान् + असि dṛṣṭavān + asi is dṛṣṭavān asi (दृष्टवानसि): the n (न्) of the participle stays before the vowel.
Say it back
Who has seen it, and who only wants to. If the gods have seen it, kāṅkṣiṇaḥ (काङ्क्षिणः) was changed into a past participle.
