18.65

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो
मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु ।
मामेवैष्यसि सत्यं ते
प्रतिजाने प्रियोऽसि मे ॥

manmanā bhava madbhakto madyājī māṃ namaskuru
mām evaiṣyasi satyaṃ te pratijāne priyo 'si me

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is still speaking, to Arjuna (अर्जुन).

The verse

Be one whose mind is mine, my devotee, and my sacrificer, and bow to me; you will come to me alone, and I promise you truly, for you are dear to me.

Where it sits

This is the good he promised, four stands and the coming to him, and 18.66 is the last step of the same speech, every dharma left and refuge in him alone.

The phrases

manmanā bhava madbhakto madyājī māṃ namaskuru (मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु) is four stands, one imperative carrying the first three, and a second imperative for the bow. Be the man whose mind is mine. Be my devotee. Be my sacrificer. Bow to me.

mām evaiṣyasi (मामेवैष्यसि) is the future those stands lead to. You will come to me alone.

satyaṃ te pratijāne priyo 'si me (सत्यं ते प्रतिजाने प्रियोऽसि मे) is the promise and its ground. I promise you truly. You are dear to me. The same dearness that reopened the speech in 18.64.

Sanskrit in this line

manāḥ (मनाः) before the voiced bh (भ्) of bhava (भव) drops its visarga and leaves manā (मना). मत् + मनाः mat + manāḥ is already manmanāḥ (मन्मनाः), because t (त्) before m (म्) becomes n (न्). Recited, the line starts manmanā bhava (मन्मना भव). प्रियः + असि priyaḥ + asi is priyo 'si (प्रियोऽसि), the same avagraha as iṣṭo 'si (इष्टोऽसि) in 18.64.

Say it back

Cover the English. Say the four, then where he will come. If namas-kuru (नमस्-कुरु) drops, stay here.
