1.2.18
Mīmāṃsā Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.2.18
अन्त्ययोर् यथोक्तम्
antyayor yathoktam
The line
Of the last two, it is as already stated.
नेपालीमा
पछिल्ला दुईको कुरा पहिले भनिए जस्तै हो।
Where it sits
Antyayoḥ (अन्त्ययोः) are the charges of 1.2.5 and 1.2.6. Yathoktam points back to the praise reading of 1.2.7 and to the name-reading of 1.1.31. No new rule is opened.
Split: antyayoḥ (अन्त्ययोः) + yathā-uktam (यथा-उक्तम्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| antyayoḥ (अन्त्ययोः) | genitive dual, masculine | of the last two |
| yathā-uktam (यथा-उक्तम्) | nominative singular, neuter | as has been stated |
The phrases
The last two are the prohibition of piling and the non-eternal name. 'The fire is not to be piled on earth, in the midspace, or in the sky' is the remainder of 'it is to be piled after laying down gold,' because that injunction expects it. Blame of earth, air, and sky praises the gold. A prohibition where there is no real occasion restates what is already so. It is not a confused command.
Babara Prāvāhaṇi (प्रावाहणि) desired was already answered. The words are meaningful wording, not a date of composition. It rose again with the attack on praise sentences, and it is put away by the same answer. Both are as already said.
Sanskrit in this line
Antya is last. The genitive dual antyayoḥ (अन्त्ययोः) means the pair at the end of the objector's list. Yathā-uktam (यथा-उक्तम्) is in the manner of what has been said.
Say it back
Do not invent a new rule. Say how the gold in the altar is praised, and say that Babara's name was already handled.
