Where it sits
tathā (तथा) carries arthasaṃyogāt (अर्थसंयोगात्) from 1.4.11. nirmanthye is the new word. The three ways of taking prokṣaṇī (प्रोक्षणी) are the three ways of taking this fire. No new principle is added.
Split: tathā (तथा) + nirmanthye (निर्मन्थ्ये)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| tathā (तथा) | indeclinable | likewise |
| nirmanthye (निर्मन्थ्ये) | locative singular, neuter | in the case of what is produced by churning |
The phrases
The sentence is: they bake the bricks with the fire produced by churning. The word is seen of fire that has been prepared, so one might take it as a preparation-word. It is also seen of fire still being churned, in the talk we shall bake this with what is being churned.
As with the sprinkling-waters, the connection with the action decides it. The word is etymological. For practice, a preparation-word would bake the bricks only with fire whose preparation was finished. A class-word would take whatever fire of that sort was at hand. The etymological word takes fire whose churning is recent, as fresh butter is butter not long out.
Sanskrit in this line
The pāṭha (पाठ) writes tathānirmanthye (तथानिर्मन्थ्ये) as one string. It is tathā (तथा) plus nirmanthye. No letter changes. The locative is the topic, parallel to prokṣaṇīṣu (प्रोक्षणीषु).
Say it back
Say that the bricks are baked with fire just churned, on the same ground as the sprinkling-waters.
