1.4.25
Mīmāṃsā Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.4.25
सारूप्यात्
sārūpyāt
The line
Because of likeness, the word is applied in praise and not as an injunction.
नेपालीमा
सादृश्यका कारण शब्द स्तुतिमा लगाइन्छ, विधि बनाएर होइन।
Where it sits
sārūpyāt (सारूप्यात्) is the next ground after jātiḥ (जातिः). The sacrificer and the post are the new pair. The praise-reading carries forward from the grass-seat. The ablative gives the reason, where jātiḥ (जातिः) gave the name of the ground.
Split: sārūpyāt (सारूप्यात्)

The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| sārūpyāt (सारूप्यात्) | ablative singular, neuter | because of likeness |
The phrases
The sentences say the sacrificer is the post, and the post is the sun. The first view again wants a quality-injunction, so that the words will have work.
The man cannot do the work of the post, and the post cannot do the work of the man. Another injunction already stands. The agreement of the words is there to praise.
The ground is likeness. What is alike is standing upright, and brightness. The word crosses by that likeness. Sentences of this kind are praise.
Sanskrit in this line
The pāṭha (पाठ) has the ablative sārūpyāt (सारूप्यात्). Śabara (शबर)'s printed sūtra (सूत्र) has the nominative sārūpyam (सारूप्यम्), a label like jātiḥ (जातिः). The ground is the same. ūrdhvatā (ऊर्ध्वता) and tejasvitā (तेजस्विता) are Śabara (शबर)'s two likenesses, uprightness and brightness.
Say it back
Say that the man and the post share uprightness and brightness, and that the sentence praises rather than enjoins.
