Where it sits

1.1.9 and 1.1.10 gave substance and quality a power action does not have. That is the first difference of action. 1.1.24 will give the reason again, from the unlikeness to quality.

Split: karma (कर्म) + karma-sādhyam (कर्म-साध्यम्) + na (न) + vidyate (विद्यते)

Motion does not give birth to a further motion the way a substance gives birth to a substance. When an action has an effect, the effect is a conjunction or a disjunction, which are qualities, or the ceasing of the action itself.

Sanskrit in this line

na vidyate is the sūtra (सूत्र)'s way of saying 'there is no such thing.' The two nominatives, karma (कर्म) and karmasādhyam (कर्मसाध्यम्), agree. The compound is read from sādhyam (साध्यम्).
