Vaiśeṣika Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.1.30
संयोगविभागाश् च कर्मणाम्
saṃyogavibhāgāś ca karmaṇām
The line
And conjunction and disjunction are effects of actions.
नेपालीमा
संयोग र विभाग कर्मका कार्य हुन्।
Where it sits
The causal pairs of this āhnika (आह्निक) are now stated. 1.1.31 closes them by reminding you of the negative result: action is not the cause of substances or of actions.
Split: saṃyoga-vibhāgāḥ (संयोग-विभागाः) + ca (च) + karmaṇām (कर्मणाम्)
Sanskrit, in depth
The words
| Word | Grammar | Sense |
|---|---|---|
| saṃyoga-vibhāgāḥ (संयोग-विभागाः) | nominative plural, masculine | conjunction and disjunction. |
| ca (च) | indeclinable | and. Also these. |
| karmaṇām (कर्मणाम्) | genitive plural, neuter | of actions. |
The phrases
kāryam (कार्यम्) still unspoken, now with the genitive on the cause side again. Actions have conjunction and disjunction as their effects.
This matches 1.1.20, where action was the cause of conjunction, disjunction, and impetus. Impetus is not repeated.
Sanskrit in this line
ca means this line is an addition to the list of effects, not a new topic. The nominative is the effect. The genitive is the cause.

Which earlier line already made action the cause of these two?
