1.6

युधामन्युश्च विक्रान्त उत्तमौजाश्च वीर्यवान् ।
सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्व एव महारथाः ॥

yudhāmanyuś ca vikrānta uttamaujāś ca vīryavān
saubhadro draupadeyāś ca sarva eva mahārathāḥ

The Pāṇḍava (पाण्डव) list ends.

The verse

And the daring Yudhāmanyu (युधामन्यु), and the valorous Uttamaujas, the son of Subhadrā (सुभद्रा), and the sons of Draupadī (द्रौपदी) — all of them great chariot-warriors.

नेपालीमा

साहसी युधामन्यु, पराक्रमी उत्तमौजस्, सुभद्राका छोरा, र द्रौपदीका छोराहरू, ती सबै ठूला रथी हुन्।

Where it sits

Duryodhana has now named the enemy down to the sons. Abhimanyu and the Draupadeyas are the generation that would inherit whatever this war decides. He calls them mahārathāḥ (महारथाः) and moves on. He is not grieving. He is counting.

The phrases

युधामन्युश् च … उत्तमौजाश् च वीर्यवान् yudhāmanyuś ca … uttamaujāś ca vīryavān finishes the single names.

saubhadro draupadeyāś ca (सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश् च) is the younger generation. One son of Arjuna, and the sons of Draupadī (द्रौपदी). saubhadraḥ (सौभद्रः) has become saubhadro (सौभद्रो) before the voiced d (द्). draupadeyāḥ ca (द्रौपदेयाः च) has become draupadeyāś ca (द्रौपदेयाश् च).

sarve eva mahārathāḥ (सर्वे एव महारथाः) closes the whole list from 1.4. All of them, great chariot-warriors. sarve (सर्वे) is plural to match the men. eva (एव) will not let "all" be loose.

Sanskrit in this line

sarve eva (सर्वे एव) is a small phrase worth keeping. sarva (सर्व) alone can be "the whole" or "everyone" in a slack sense. eva (एव) pins it: these ones, all of them, the ones just named. The verb that governs the list is still paśya (पश्य) in 1.3. Epic verse is comfortable leaving a verb in force across several double dandas. Before you decide a verse has no verb, look back.

Say it back

End the Pāṇḍava (पाण्डव) list from memory: the son of Subhadrā (सुभद्रा), the sons of Draupadī (द्रौपदी), and the rank Duryodhana gives them.
