साङ्ख्ययोगौ पृथग्बालाः प्रवदन्ति न पण्डिताः ।
एकमप्यास्थितः सम्यगुभयोर्विन्दते फलम् ॥

sāṅkhyayogau pṛthag bālāḥ pravadanti na paṇḍitāḥ
ekam apy āsthitaḥ samyag ubhayor vindate phalam

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) continues. sāṅkhya (साङ्ख्य) and yoga (योग) are the two ways the previous chapters have already named, knowledge and action.

The verse

Children say that sāṅkhya and yoga are separate, the learned do not say it, and even a man rightly settled in one obtains the fruit of both.

Where it sits

5.2 said both make the highest good. This verse says why a man does not have to finish the argument before he walks. Standing rightly in one of them, he gets the fruit that belongs to both. The quarrel that they are two different roads is given to the immature.

The phrases

sāṅkhyayogau pṛthak (साङ्ख्ययोगौ पृथक्) is what the children say: that the two are separate things. pravadanti (प्रवदन्ति) is the verb for both subjects. na paṇḍitāḥ (न पण्डिताः) uses that same verb and refuses it. The learned do not say this.

एकम् अपि आस्थितः सम्यक् ekam api āsthitaḥ samyak is a person who has rightly taken his stand in even one of them. ubhayoḥ phalam (उभयोः फलम्) is what he obtains: the fruit of both.

pṛthak bālāḥ (पृथक् बालाः) is recited pṛthag bālāḥ (पृथग्बालाः). api āsthitaḥ (अपि आस्थितः) is recited apy āsthitaḥ (अप्यास्थितः). सम्यक् उभयोः samyak ubhayoḥ is recited samyag ubhayoḥ (सम्यगुभयोः), and ubhayoḥ vindate (उभयोः विन्दते) is ubhayor vindate (उभयोर्विन्दते).

Sanskrit in this line

A final k (क्) before a voiced sound becomes g (ग्). pṛthak (पृथक्) before bālāḥ (बालाः) is pṛthag (पृथग्). samyak (सम्यक्) before ubhayoḥ (उभयोः) is samyag (सम्यग्). Same change, once before a consonant and once before a vowel. The word you look up is still the one with k (क्). The recited line has voiced it.

Say it back

Say who calls the two separate, and what the man settled in one of them obtains. If paṇḍitāḥ (पण्डिताः) comes out on the side of pṛthak (पृथक्), stay here.
