8.8

अभ्यासयोगयुक्तेन चेतसा नान्यगामिना ।
परमं पुरुषं दिव्यं याति पार्थानुचिन्तयन् ॥

abhyāsayogayuktena cetasā nānyagāminā
paramaṃ puruṣaṃ divyaṃ yāti pārthānucintayan

Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) continues. The order was "remember, and fight." This verse says with what kind of mind a man goes to the supreme person.

The verse

With a mind yoked to the yoga of practice and not going elsewhere, one goes, son of Pṛthā (पृथा), to the supreme divine person, meditating on him.

नेपालीमा

अभ्यासको योगमा युक्त, अरूतिर नजाने मनले ऊ जान्छ, हे पृथापुत्र, परम दिव्य पुरुषकहाँ, उसलाई ध्यान गर्दै।

Where it sits

8.7 gave the order. 8.8 gives the attention that carries it out. The person he goes to is about to be described, in a longer line, through 8.9 and 8.10. pārtha (पार्थ) keeps the speech aimed at the man in the chariot.

The phrases

abhyāsayogayuktena cetasā na anyagāminā (अभ्यासयोगयुक्तेन चेतसा न अन्यगामिना) is one instrument, the mind, with two descriptions. Yoked to practice, and not traveling elsewhere. All three words are instrumental. They answer "by means of what."

paramaṃ puruṣaṃ divyam (परमं पुरुषं दिव्यम्) is one object, three accusatives. The supreme divine person. This is the puruṣa (पुरुष) of 8.4, now the one a man goes to.

yāti pārtha anucintayan (याति पार्थ अनुचिन्तयन्) is the going, and the participle that matches its subject. He goes while thinking on that person. The subject is not named. The participle's nominative is the subject.

Sanskrit in this line

न + अन्यगामिना na + anyagāminā is recited nānyagāminā (नान्यगामिना), and पार्थ + अनुचिन्तयन् pārtha + anucintayan is recited pārthānucintayan (पार्थानुचिन्तयन्). Both are अ + अ a + a becoming ā (आ). The negative na (न) is a separate word in the split. It is not the prefix inside anya (अन्य). anya (अन्य) already means "other." na anyagāmin (न अन्यगामिन्) means "not going to another."

Say it back

The mind, then the person he goes to. If nānyagāminā (नान्यगामिना) comes out as "going to another," the na (न) was lost in the long ā (आ).
