Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) is still speaking to Arjuna (अर्जुन).

The verse

I am the same in all beings; none is to be hated by me and none is dear; but those who worship me with devotion are in me, and I am also in them.

Where it sits

The leaf was for anyone who offers it with devotion. This verse says the sameness is real, and the devotion still makes a dwelling. They are in him, and he is in them. 9.30 will push that as far as a very bad life.

The phrases

samaḥ aham sarva-bhūteṣu (समः अहम् सर्व-भूतेषु) is sameness. He is the same in every being. na me dveṣyaḥ asti na priyaḥ (न मे द्वेष्यः अस्ति न प्रियः) spells the sameness out. For him there is no one who must be hated, and no one who is the dear one.

ye bhajanti tu māṃ bhaktyā (ये भजन्ति तु मां भक्त्या) is the turn. tu (तु) does not cancel the sameness. It adds the worshippers. mayi te teṣu ca api aham (मयि ते तेषु च अपि अहम्) puts them in him and him in them.

Sanskrit in this line

समः + अहम् samaḥ + aham is samo 'ham (समोऽहम्). द्वेष्यः + अस्ति dveṣyaḥ + asti is dveṣyo 'sti (द्वेष्योऽस्ति). Both are अः + अ aḥ + a becoming o ' (ओऽ). One verse, two avagrahas, one rule.

Say it back

Cover the English. Say the sameness, then the worshippers in him. If the second half is dropped to protect the first, stay here.
