एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर ।
द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम ॥

evam etad yathāttha tvam ātmānaṃ parameśvara
draṣṭum icchāmi te rūpam aiśvaraṃ puruṣottama

Arjuna (अर्जुन) is still speaking, to Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण).

The verse

It is so, as you say yourself, supreme lord; I wish to see your lordly form, highest person.

नेपालीमा

हे परमेश्वर, तपाईंले आफैँ भन्नुभएझैँ यो त्यस्तै हो। हे सर्वोच्च पुरुष, म तपाईंको ऐश्वर्य रूप देख्न चाहन्छु।

Where it sits

Hearing is granted. Seeing is requested. The form he names is the lordly one, aiśvaram (ऐश्वरम्), not the man standing on the chariot.

The phrases

एवम् एतत् यथा आत्थ त्वम् आत्मानम् evam etat yathā āttha tvam ātmānam accepts the account. It is thus, this, as you say yourself. He is not arguing with chapter 10.

द्रष्टुम् इच्छामि ते रूपम् ऐश्वरम् draṣṭum icchāmi te rūpam aiśvaram is the new ask. I wish to see your lordly form. The infinitive is the thing wished. The accusatives are the thing seen.

parama-īśvara (परम-ईश्वर) and पुरुष-उत्तम puruṣa-uttama are the two vocatives, one in each half. Supreme lord. Highest person.

Sanskrit in this line

यथा + आत्थ yathā + āttha is recited yathāttha (यथात्थ). ā (आ) plus ā (आ) is one long ā (आ), not two. āttha (आत्थ) is "you say," second person singular. The ending is on the verb of saying, and tvam (त्वम्) is the subject standing beside it.

Say it back

What he grants, and what he wants to do. If draṣṭum (द्रष्टुम्) comes out as "to hear," stay here. The ear is finished. The eye is the ask.
