मन्यसे यदि तच्छक्यं मया द्रष्टुमिति प्रभो ।
योगेश्वर ततो मे त्वं दर्शयात्मानमव्ययम् ॥

manyase yadi tac chakyaṃ mayā draṣṭum iti prabho
yogeśvara tato me tvaṃ darśayātmānam avyayam

Arjuna (अर्जुन) is still speaking, to Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण).

The verse

If you think that I am able to see that, lord, then, lord of yoga, show me your imperishable self.

Where it sits

He does not claim the eye for it. He puts the possibility in Kṛṣṇa's (कृष्ण) judgment, and the verb he uses is the causative: not "I will look," but "you show."

The phrases

मन्यसे यदि तत् शक्यम् मया द्रष्टुम् इति manyase yadi tat śakyam mayā draṣṭum iti is the condition, and iti (इति) marks it as the thought he is putting in front of the lord. If you think that seeing is possible for me.

ततः मे त्वम् दर्शय आत्मानम् अव्ययम् tataḥ me tvam darśaya ātmānam avyayam is the request proper. Then you, show me your imperishable self. darśaya (दर्शय) is not "see." It is "make seen."

prabho (प्रभो) closes the first half. yoga-īśvara (योग-ईश्वर) opens the second. The showing, if it comes, will come from the lord of yoga.

Sanskrit in this line

तत् + शक्यम् tat + śakyam is recited tac chakyam (तच्छक्यम्). t (त्) before ś (श्) becomes c (च्), and ś (श्) becomes ch (छ्). The two changes travel together. You do not say tatśakyam (तत्शक्यम्).

Say it back

The if, and the verb of showing. If darśaya (दर्शय) comes out as paśya (पश्य), "look," the ask has been turned around. He is not yet the one who sees.
