11.13

तत्रैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं प्रविभक्तमनेकधा ।
अपश्यद्देवदेवस्य शरीरे पाण्डवस्तदा ॥

tatraikasthaṃ jagat kṛtsnaṃ pravibhaktam anekadhā
apaśyad devadevasya śarīre pāṇḍavas tadā

Sañjaya (सञ्जय) is still speaking, to Dhṛtarāṣṭra (धृतराष्ट्र).

The verse

Then the son of Pāṇḍu (पाण्डु) saw the whole world standing there in one place, divided in many ways, in the body of the god of gods.

नेपालीमा

तब पाण्डुपुत्रले देवताका देवको शरीरमा एकै ठाउँमा उभिएको, अनेक प्रकारले विभाजित सारा जगत् देख्यो।

Where it sits

The divine eye has done its work. What Kṛṣṇa (कृष्ण) told him to see in 11.7, Sañjaya (सञ्जय) now says he saw. 11.14 will put him on his knees before he speaks.

Split: तत्र + एक-स्थम् + जगत् + कृत्स्नम् + प्रविभक्तम् + अनेकधा + अपश्यत् + देव-देवस्य + शरीरे + पाण्डवः + तदा

tatra + eka-stham + jagat + kṛtsnam + pravibhaktam + anekadhā + apaśyat + deva-devasya + śarīre + pāṇḍavaḥ + tadā

The phrases

तत्र एक-स्थम् जगत् कृत्स्नम् प्रविभक्तम् अनेकधा tatra eka-stham jagat kṛtsnam pravibhaktam anekadhā is what was in the body. The whole world, standing in one place, and yet divided in many ways. eka-stham (एक-स्थम्) repeats 11.7. Now it is a report of seeing, not a command.

apaśyat deva-devasya śarīre pāṇḍavaḥ tadā (अपश्यत् देव-देवस्य शरीरे पाण्डवः तदा) is the seer and the place. Then the son of Pāṇḍu (पाण्डु) saw it in the body of the god of gods.

Sanskrit in this line

The a- (अ-) on apaśyat (अपश्यत्) is the past-time prefix of the imperfect, the same prefix as on akurvata (अकुर्वत) in 1.1. It is not the negative a- (अ-). अपश्यत् + देव apaśyat + deva is recited apaśyad deva (अपश्यद्देव): t (त्) before voiced d (द्) becomes d (द्).

Say it back

Who saw, and in whose body. If the seer is Sañjaya (सञ्जय), the nominative pāṇḍavaḥ (पाण्डवः) was missed.
