तस्य निमित्तपरीष्टिः

tasya nimittaparīṣṭiḥ

The line

Of that dharma (धर्म), one examines the cause of knowing it.

नेपालीमा

त्यो धर्मको, त्यसलाई जान्ने कारण जाँचिन्छ।

Where it sits

Dharma from 1.1.2 is the thing named here only by tasya. Nimitta is the new word. It is still in force when 1.1.4 says perception is animitta, not a cause.

tasya (तस्य)genitive singular, masculineof that, of dharma (धर्म)
nimitta-parīṣṭiḥ (निमित्त-परीष्टिः)nominative singular, feminineexamination of the cause, the means by which it would be known

The phrases

Tasya points back. The line does not restate dharma (धर्म).

Nimitta is the cause by which one would know it. Parīṣṭi (परीष्टि) is the searching out of that cause. The next line begins the search by setting perception aside.

Sanskrit in this line

Parīṣṭi (परीष्टि) is a feminine noun of examination. The compound is a tatpuruṣa (तत्पुरुष), the searching out of the nimitta.

Say it back

Gloss tasya as of dharma (धर्म), and nimittaparīṣṭiḥ (निमित्तपरीष्टिः) as the examination of how dharma (धर्म) is known.

Next

1.1.4. Perception grasps what is present, so it is not the cause of knowing dharma (धर्म).
