1.3.32

Mīmāṃsā Sūtra / Adhyāya 1 / 1.3.32

अन्यदर्शनाच् च

anyadarśanāc ca

The line

And because the text speaks of another individual, the word would denote the individual and not the class-form.

नेपालीमा

र पाठले अर्को एक्लो चीज बोल्ने भएकाले शब्द त्यो एक्लो चीज जनाउँथ्यो, आकृति होइन।

Where it sits

ca adds this to adravyaśabdatvāt (अद्रव्यशब्दत्वात्) of 1.3.31. Both are reasons against the class-form. anya is the substitute animal in that sentence. The decision for the class-form has not yet been given.

Split: anya-darśanāt (अन्य-दर्शनात्) + ca (च)

The words

anya-darśanāt (अन्य-दर्शनात्)ablative singular, neuterbecause another is seen
ca (च)indeclinableand

The phrases

If the dedicated animal runs off, he should take another of that color and that age. That sentence uses another.

If the word animal meant the class-form, taking another would not fit. The other animal has that same form. So, on this view, the word denotes the individual.

Sanskrit in this line

anyadarśanāt (अन्यदर्शनात्) before ca is heard as anyadarśanāc (अन्यदर्शनाच्). The genitive anyasya is not in the line. The compound anya-darśana (अन्य-दर्शन) is the seeing, in the text, of another.

Say it back

Say the runaway animal and the substitute of the same color and age, as the first view's second reason.

1.3.33. The word means the class-form, because the word is for an action.
